Bright Young Things Drama is Expanding

After a hugely successful summer of drama, Bright Young Things is thrilled to announce it is opening three new drama schools this September, in Ballymena, Comber and Portstewart. Demand for BYT’s unique drama classes designed to build life skills and develop confidence, communication, creativity and critical thinking through the power of drama, continues to grow.

Sister act, Lisa Duffy and Aisling Bremner, who together run Bright Young Things Drama, are passionate about the need for children and young people to develop the often over looked softer skills from an early age and to build resilience and confidence to support them through whatever path they choose in life. They believe their unique drama programme will help children unlock their full potential, build their confidence and communication skills and encourage them to think in a more creative and critical way.

Bright Young Things have loyal support from their patron of many years, acclaimed local actor James Nesbitt. Commenting on the expansion, Jimmy saysI am over the moon that Bright Young Things is expanding and of course that they are setting up new schools in my beloved North Coast, in Ballymena and Portstewart. It will really benefit young people in the areas, helping them reach their full potential. The benefits of drama are so essential for the future, no matter where life takes you. It simply makes you a more confident, creative and dynamic person. BYT is such a high-quality organisation and Lisa and her team will ensure to bring out the best in each and every person who joins. I am very proud to be a patron of an organisation that is having such an impact in Northern Ireland and delighted now that people from my home town get the chance to get involvedBYT Patron, James Nesbitt.

Founded in 2010, the multi award winning Bright Young Things Drama Company already has very popular weekly schools in Belfast, Holywood, Magherafelt and Armagh, and will now add Ballymena, Comber and Portstewart to their group from September. The drama company was founded by Lisa Duffy, originally from Magherafelt, who after completing a Drama degree at Queen’s University, trained as a professional actor at the world famous LAMDA actor training school in London and later trained as a primary school teacher. Through her unique combination of training in both acting and teaching, Lisa was struck by the benefits of combining drama and performance to address many of the challenges teachers and the education system face when trying to teach the essential and often overlooked softer skills necessary for developing the whole child.
