“I can’t believe he was up on a professional stage at the age of 3 and he loved it!”

The words of a teary mum after one of our littl’uns showcases. Once a year we leave the workshop studios and head to the stage to perform for an invited audience. No matter the age: 3 or 18, we want all our bright young things to know that we believe in them, that they are brave enough to take to the stage and for that hour, they are the most important people in the room and they feel 10 feet tall. This ‘can do’ attitude is carefully nurtured at BYT across the previous 6 months but stays with them for a lifetime.

This year all of our shows were inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland stories. However, we don’t simply give our bright young things the story and ask them to recreate it. Oh no!

They become the theatre makers and the script writers during rehearsals as they explored different angles, endings and characters to create new piece of theatre, We are Wonderland.

Ballymena and Fairhill, Free Drama Classes for Kids!

As well as our inhouse BYT classes, we’ve been delivering free drama on the last Saturday of every month in Ballymena, courtesy of Fairhill Shopping Centre. The workshops take place in Fairhill shopping centre and are created and delivered by the Bright Young Things facilitation team.

More and more local bright young things have been coming along to develop and exhibit their creativity. The relaxed nature of the workshop and setting allows parents to give their kids a chance to try something new while they watch or shop – win win! At BYT, we’re just overwhelmed by how many people have joined in on the fun at Fairhill.

What did we do over Easter?

Well, we had a fantastic week hosting our Easter camps in the beautiful grounds of Methodist and Victoria College on Malone Road. Groups of children aged 3-7 enjoyed five magical days of drama delivered by our expert. As well as acting, we covered dance, music, mini-plays, costume craft and puppetry.

As always, we had an absolute ball during the classes, and most importantly, the children left with new skills, new friends and feeling empowered. Now that some of the children have dipped their toes in theatre, we’ll be seeing them once again for our weekly classes.

It has really got us excited about all the summer camps now!
